Golf runs 12 months of the year but a specific 'Junior Season' runs from October to April. Most clubs in the area run junior programmes throughout this season and the district golf association runs a series of junior events (JTS) in February, March and April. The major junior events are held during the April school holidays which also acts as the end of the junior season.

Junior Plus Golf Programme
Designed by New Zealand Golf, 'Junior Plus' is a qualification awarded to golf clubs recognising their capability to provide a quality golf programme for their junior golfers
 'Junior Plus' enables clubs to provide a welcome environment for young people with a structured, seasonal coaching/playing plan. Juniors are allocated into small teams under the guidance of a volunteer coach trained in the NZ Golf Coach Education Programme as a Level One Coach.
