Munn makes it two in a row at the Horowhenua Open Josh Munn cemented his position in the district rep side to play Wellington after he put together consecutive sub par rounds of 70 to win the Horowhenua Open by 4 shots from Feilding Open winner Lachie McDonald. This is Munn's second straight victory in the MWGI OOM and a sure sign that his game is back to it's best. McDonald continued his great form which has seen him inside the top 5 at his last five events. Joe Kells Memorial District representative Josh Munn put his hand up for representative selection again this year by winning the Joe Kells by 3 shots on an even par total 144 (74,70). Munn becomes the 4th consecutive under 19 player to win a district order of merit event after Lachie Mcdonald, Tyler Hodge and Trent Munn won the previous three 36 hole events. Josh adds the Joe Kells to his Challenge Cup victory in 2007 and Hawkes Bay Strokeplay title in 2009. Selector Stuart Atkins rewarded Josh by naming him in the team sent to the Grant Clements Memorial alongside current OOM leader Lachie McDonald.
Feilding Open
Former NZ Junior rep Lachie McDonald put together two good rounds to take first place at the Feilding Open. Widely regarded for his low scoring, he shot 71 and 67 for a 4 under total and a one shot victory over current district junior rep Angus Findlay. Findlay led the field after 18 holes, returning a career best 67 to lead Feilding player Glen Finlayson (69) and McDonald (71). Round of the afternoon went to the Challenge Cup champion Tyler Hodge with 67.
The top 2 on the OOM following the Joe Kells to be played on Jan 31st receive automatic entry into the South Island Invitational played in Invercargill. The results in this event put McDonald, Finlay and Hodge in a great position to secure their positions. |
What is the OOM? The Manawatu Wanganui Golf Order of Merit is used as a selection tool by district selectors for all male representative sides. Players wishing to represent the district in 2010 should play in these events as an indication of availability.
An accumulative points system will be used over the course of the season. At each event the top 29 players who hold a home membership in the Manawatu Wanganui district will be allocated points. Automatic selection for playing positions in our representative sides will be available as listed below. Automatic spots in Senior and Masters sides will be offered to the first eligible player (most accumulated points) and so on until the automatic quota has been filled. In the instance of junior selection; when a junior eligible for automatic selection has been selected for a senior side, that automatic junior selection will transfer to a selectors choice. Automatic selection will always be conditional on player behaviour, which is at the discretion of the selection panel.
Selections will be made following the Order of Merit event preceeding the upcoming representative match, except the Freyberg Masters team which will be named following the Challenge Cup on September 12th. |

Points available at conflicting NZ Golf OOM events Players competing at NZ Golf OOM events which conflict with a MWGA OOM event, will be entitled to the equivilant points for their placing. i.e. a 14th placing in the NZ Golf OOM event will be worth the equivilant 14th place points from the conflicting MWGA OOM event. Players must inform selectors of their placing in a NZ Golf OOM event as soon as possible following its completion. Should a team be named prior to this information being received, selections will stand as already posted. | 2009 OOM Page Link | |
